I had my very first photo shoot today. For years I have stuck to the realm of in-the-moment, candid photography and gosh, I have loved that space. I love the surprise of composition and beauty that hits me every time I walk the streets, and the rush of excitement as I discover a new place, its people and their portraits. But today I finally confronted my fears of photo shoots, and of planned, carefully orchestrated photography and just went for it. It was a fucking blast.
Props were hastily borrowed from an assortment of people, models were cajoled over last minute text messages, make up was procured from a costume warehouse in wasteland suburbia and somehow, despite the early morning and multiple camera malfunctions- the whole thing just came together.
Elise was a total rockstar with the makeup, and Anna, Tashi, Jeremy and Liyanna were such great models I could hardly handle it. I think I spent a large part of the shoot squealing at their 'model' faces, and just how damn wonderful they all were.
I spent all afternoon developing the negatives, tapping my feet impatiently and peeking into the drier to make sure they were still there. I should have them all printed by the end of this week and can't wait to see how they turn out! For now, a few digital outtakes-
