At 5:30am on Christmas morning, three members of the Javeri-Kadri quartet are sitting around the kitchen table. Spreading peanut butter on slices of apple, stirring a saucepan of chai, and nibbling on cashews. Conversation ranging from the way education can change value systems, to how desperately we need a larger fridge. This is it, this is the moment that i will look back on in two months time, when home feels like a distant memory and pine to relive.
At 7:00am on Christmas morning, my mother and I are driving around the sleepy Bombay streets, watching the city wake up. We visit four churches, in different parts of the city, sometimes photographing their emptiness, and their quiet, and sometimes just sitting in the back and watching the Christmas morning service take place.
I am hoping to rediscover Bombay this month. I've spent the past three years growing in other directions, reaching out to new experiences, but now it's time to come home.
